Position Description
This position’s primary function is to provide all aspects of advising to international students to support recruitment and retention in order to meet the enrollment goals of the college. This position reports to the Director of International Student Advising.

Duties 
 Position Responsibilities:
Provide personal, relationship-based care and advising for international students in areas including: cultural, academic, university transfer, personal, immigration, employment, and health
Serve as lead advisor for designated caseload
Assist students in creating customized degree plans in order to help students achieve their educational and academic goals
Provide orientation sessions for international students
Work collaboratively with the IP marketing team and other areas of IPEL to continuously improve International Program’s outstanding and competitive advising program with a focus on nationwide university transfer
Market and promote Green River's educational programs and services to students, international agents and organizations
Develop and implement advising and retention strategies in collaboration with the advising team, marketing team, and other areas of IPEL
Some evening and weekend work required
Occasional domestic and international travel required
Execute other related responsibilities as assigned

Institution Information
The International Programs office at Green River College serves approximately 1700 international students from more than 50 different countries. The majority of students are enrolled in academic classes, with the intent to transfer and pursue a four-year degree. Green River is a leader in nationwide university transfer, and our students have transferred to top universities including: University of Washington, UC Berkeley, UCLA, University of Michigan and many other schools. About 400 students are served in our Intensive English as a Second Language Program. Students usually live in Campus Corner Apartments, our on-campus housing facility, or with host families, in shared housing, or in apartments near the school.

Required Qualifications 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degreeExperience working in higher education
Excellent customer service skillsAttention to detail and good follow through
Passion for international education
Demonstrated ability to develop and build relationships
Demonstrated intercultural competency
Ability to interpret academic degree requirements, academic policies and procedures to facilitate student academic progress
Ability to work collaboratively with other college divisions/departments
Ability to work in a market-driven, innovative, fast-paced environment
Flexible, self-motivated and ability to take initiative
Ability to travel internationally 1-2 weeks per year
Demonstrated ability to use and learn appropriate technology including MS Office and social mediaStrong attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal skills
SPECIAL CERTIFICATION:
Must meet the requirements for registration as a Designated School Official (DSO) with the Department of Homeland Security; DSO and Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) training required within three months of hire. 

Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters' degree
Experience in academic advising and/or in F-1 student advising
Experience living and/or working abroadFluency in a language other than English
