Position Description

This is a grant-funded position dependent on continued grant funding. This position will administer the 2018 Washburn University (University) Title III grant in accordance with U.S. Department of Education (ED) Title III guidelines and Washburn’s institutional policies and procedures. This position will manage and guide all aspects of the Title III grant to achieve project outcomes and objectives, especially focused on increasing student retention and on-time graduation through interventions in improved teaching, learning, and advising.


Provide project leadership and oversee the day-to-day management of the Title III project activities, ensuring all activities work toward achieving the project’s goals. Serve as liaison to ED and institutional grant stakeholders to develop implementation strategies, processes, and programs that comply with ED guidelines and requirements for the project. Remain current regarding Title III and ED policies, grant terms, and conditions to ensure program compliance throughout the grant period. Ensure compliance with University standards, requirements and regulations. Supervise, support and manage team to maximize employee performance and engagement. Ensure staff receive appropriate training from academic advising professional(s). This includes initial training and ongoing training to maintain staff currency, address issues and concerns and develop/support unit cohesion.

Work with University finance and accounting staff to ensure that fiscal planning, budgeting, and financial reporting are managed in compliance with ED and University regulations, requirements, policies, and procedures. Work with project staff and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective project evaluation procedures. Collect, analyze, and review project data from a variety of sources to evaluate and track project progress. Collaborate with the project’s Third Party Evaluator to review, monitor, and evaluate project effectiveness through required reporting, ensuring objectivity and accuracy of data for the project. Lead and direct implementation of project objectives to ensure achievement of stated outcomes. Monitor, review, and assess programs and project initiatives as they are implemented.

Supervise and coordinate with Title III staff as they work to accomplish Title III project outcomes and objectives. Work with University departments and staff to establish and support grant activities and outcomes. Coordinate and direct meetings for project stakeholders, as needed, to provide opportunities for discussion, planning, direction, and ongoing support to facilitate program success. Establish and maintain effective communication procedures to ensure project congruence with institutional goals. Communicate project updates and information with Title III staff, the grant steering committee and other stakeholders through written reports, prepared presentations, and other available means to keep all parties apprised of project status and activities. Assume primary responsibility for advising a cohort of undergraduate students. Maintain a healthy, fair, and inclusive work environment by promoting diversity, exercising teamwork and collaboration. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. Minimum four years of experience in project management at the professional level. Previous experience supervising employees at the professional level. Proven success working in a collaborative team environment. Experience with qualitative and quantitative analysis. Must have a commitment to equal opportunity and working with diverse populations. Administrative experience with budgets.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred. Project evaluation experience. Grant management experience with state or federal grant programs. Experience working in an educational institution. Experience with advising or student advocacy.
