Duties
ROLE of the POSITION This is a posting for one (1) full-time Senior Academic Advisor whose primary role will be to work with Exploring Majors students in the Academic Success Center. Additionally, this position will work with undergraduate non-degree seeking and prospective, as well. The Senior Academic Advisor assists students with goal clarification, developing an academic plan for each semester, and interpreting university policies and procedures. Extensive knowledge of the general education degree requirements for all majors offered at the university is essential for this position. Advisors assist students with identifying their strengths, interests, and abilities and explain how these areas relate to majors and careers in order to move forward in the major selection process. Additional duties as a Senior Academic Advisor include, but are not limited to the following: assisting the director with assessment and evaluation of advising services; coordinating initiatives to assist at-risk/probationary students; maintaining accurate and detailed student records; evaluating student’s degree progress; assisting students with processing forms; interpreting and correcting degree audit reports; reviewing and articulating transfer coursework; referring students to appropriate campus resources; participating in on-campus and off-campus center and university recruiting events, as well as New Student Orientation, which will require occasional evening and weekend work.

Required Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered for the Senior Academic Advisor position, candidates must possess at minimum a Master’s degree in advising, counseling, psychology, sociology, public administration, or related fields, and must be from an accredited college or university. Additionally, qualified candidates must have at least three (3) years of full-time (or equivalent) academic advising experience, including work involving extensive student contacts at a college or university interpreting, communicating, and applying academic policies as well as demonstrated leadership experiences in academic advising and/or academic success services. Experience as an academic advisor working with computerized student information systems, preferably with PeopleSoft, would be highly desirable.Advisors are required to speak publicly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, so candidates must be personable and articulate, with excellent writing and speaking skills. Candidates must be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment of constant change and variety and possess effective decision making and problem solving skills. SALARY RANGE Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
