Position Description

Provides academic and career advisement, as well as student recruitment and retention services, to new, continuing and prospective students in person, by phone, via email, or online chat.

Duties

  • 80% - Provides academic advisement for new, continuing, and prospective students in a one-stop center; provides information on admission, program and degree requirements, and information on MCCCD policies and procedures that impact students
  • 10% - Evaluates prior credit to verify course prerequisites and applicability to Rio degrees and certificates, as well as transferability of college credits; updates student records as needed
  • 10% - Participates in special projects such as education and career fairs; participates in departmental meetings and training sessions; performs related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in a student services functional role such as academic advisor, registration agent, or graduation technician

  • Experience working with online student databases

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite programs in a professional setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Recent academic advisement experience in a college or university setting
  • Experience with student retention and degree completion principles
  • Experience with customer contact including telephone and email
  • Experience with transcript evaluation
  • Effective written communication skills
