Position Description

This position is responsible for a variety of tasks and projects including course scheduling, student advising, faculty assistance, event planning, website updates, and assistance with the graduate admissions process. This position is the primary point of contact for people contacting and visiting the department.

Institution Information

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Department of Public Policy is an interdisciplinary academic unit within the College of Arts and Sciences offering undergraduate and doctoral level education. The department is made up of approximately 300 undergraduate majors, 30 doctoral students, 15 full-time teaching faculty, and additional temporary employees and faculty. Public Policy is also home to the Education Policy Initiative at Carolina (EPIC), a research unit made up of several permanent and temporary employees, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate research assistants.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Excellent organizational, communication, and collaborative skills are essential for this position. Strong analytical skills and a high level of customer service experience with the ability to assist a variety of constituents including students, faculty, staff, and visitors is also essential. The selected candidate must be able to work as part of a team which includes staff, faculty and students. Experience with Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.

Preferred Qualification

BA in discipline related to public policy is highly preferred, as is prior experience working in an academic setting. Additionally, prior experience with ConnectCarolina (Peoplesoft) applications is also highly desirable.
