Position Description

Launched in 2014 the Allen Yarnell Center for Student Success comprised of the Office of Student Success, Career, Internship & Student Employment Services and the Office of Financial Education. The Center saw over 18,800 client visits last year, with increased growth each year since its inception. The over-arching goal of the Center is to advance student retention and graduation outcomes by providing access, resources, solutions, and expertise to promote student success through career maturity, learning support, engagement and financial acumen.
As part of a dynamic team, this position is responsible for conducting intervention/advising meetings with students.


Success Advisors, with the Office of Student Success, will assist students with the skills and decoding necessary to receive the full benefit of their education at MSU. This includes conducting one-on-one appointments with students, reviewing appropriate learning strategies (including but not limited to: critical thinking/reading skill, test-taking skills, note-taking skills, time management). In addition, Advisors will assist with financial literacy, arranging free tutoring, and referrals to appropriate campus services. Advisors will also help decode important information, ideas and tactics to help students receive the full benefit of their education.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Experience working with college students or similar populations as a mentor/advisor in a professional environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast paced office setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field.
  • Experience facilitating and instructing small group workshops and classes.
  • Possess knowledge of the education system and related services.
