Within Thurgood Marshall College and under the general direction of the Provost, the Dean of Academic Advising manages a staff of professional advisors and support personnel who provide a complex, comprehensive Academic Advising Program to students of the College. Under the general direction of the Council of Provosts, the colleges' Deans of Academic Advising collectively administer and enforce campus-wide academic policies relative to undergraduate education, and, as resource personnel to a wide range of campus committees, departments, and offices, represent the needs and requirements of undergraduate students.

Required Qualifications
A Master's Degree in Counseling, Student Affairs, or Student Personnel with 5 to 7 years of progressively higher-level experience; or comparable combination of education and experience. Proven leadership and management experience in a complex organization with proven ability to apply management principles, lead staff, organize and set priorities, and establish short and long range strategies and goals. Proven skills in selecting, supervising, training, motivating and evaluating professional and administrative staff. Ability to provide leadership that motivates and promotes team building and creates a positive work environment. Strong personal and interpersonal skills with ability to exercise diplomacy, tact and flexibility when interacting with all levels of students, faculty, and staff. Knowledge of national trends and issues facing higher education.Demonstrated ability and expertise in student counseling and academic advising. Understanding of undergraduate education and academic program planning and implementation. Proven ability to utilize computer technology to support the mission and goals of academic advising.Effective analytical skills to interpret and apply policies, to make sound decisions and recommendations.Proven ability to serve in a leadership capacity on campus wide committees, system wide committees, college committees and national organizations.
