Position Description

The University Pre-Health Professions Advisor position is a full-time 10-month appointment within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.


The University Pre-Health Professions Advisor will provide advising to students from all majors interested in pursuing careers in health care as well as maintain and establish relationships with health profession schools. This individual should have excellent communication skills with both health professionals and students. In addition, this individual will maintain and expand affiliation agreements between EIU and regional/national health professional schools and hospitals. This position requires some travel and evening/weekend work. Finally, some teaching responsibilities may be required.

  1. Master’s degree with at least 3 years of experience in a health profession, pre-health advisement, or related experience.
  2. Knowledge of the requirements, application process, and selection criteria of various degree programs in health care.
  3. Excellent communication skills to professionally and effectively communicate with a diverse student body, university personnel across departments at EIU and other institutions, as well as health profession schools
  4. As this position requires some travel, the ability to travel regionally and nationally, including some evenings and weekends, is required.
  5. Ability to lead groups and establish relationships with diverse stakeholders (both on- and off-campus).
  6. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience with promoting inclusive excellence is required.
